Thrifting is one of my favorite hobbies. I love finding unique items or trendy pieces I’ve been wanting. I have been a secondhand shopper for as long as I can remember. I would go back to school shopping with my mom at Goodwills and other thrift stores in our area. We would spend the whole day going around trying to find all of the items I wanted for the school year.

Originally, we shopped second hand to stretch our budget. I was allotted a certain amount of money to spend but would never be able to get everything I wanted if I were to go to a traditional department store or mall. As I got older and grew to have an interest in pursuing fashion as a career, I began to learn about the amount of waste that the industry contributes.

I knew that I wanted to do what I could to help reduce my waste while still being able to get new items when I needed them. Secondhand shopping has seen an increase in interest as it has become easier to access with reselling apps and consignment options.

There are so many different benefits to shopping secondhand. It can make shopping feel like more of a treasure hunt. If Going out and searching for items isn’t your thing, I recommend Poshmark, ThreadUp, and Depop. These are also great ways to resell your clothing items to extend their life and make yourself some extra cash.

Check out the infographic I made below for some stats about shopping secondhand
